These Paint Colors Can Boost Your Home’s Value (Or Reduce It)
Trends in interior colors tend to stay in vogue about seven years, so if the new year’s got you in the mood to make some changes, you may as well choose the hues that’ll positively impact your home’s value for a while.
Most homeowners spruce up their properties before listing them for sale, and all of them wish they had made the updates earlier so they could have enjoyed the improvements themselves.
The average cost of repainting a room is only about $385—not that expensive in the grand scheme. But even though a buyer could easily change paint color themselves, research conducted by Zillow suggests there are colors for which buyers will pay a premium… and then there are colors that would actually make them decrease their offer.

“Our study found homebuyers may be particularly sensitive to paint color, despite paint being a relatively easy and inexpensive change, because they're navigating a complex environment with a lot of uncertainty," Kate Rogers, a senior behavioral scientist at Zillow, said in a statement.
Sky blue in the bathroom is the hands-down winner, with buyers saying they’d pay about $5,000 more for a house with this hue in the loo. But buyers threw shade at Illuminating, Pantone’s 2021 Color of the Year, saying this bright yellow would actually make them reduce their offer by $2,000. Oof.
